School Age Program Overview
From gymnastics to dance and capoeira, to tumbling and trampoline, AcroSports offers fun and exciting classes for every active schoolage student. Those with commitment and determination will find themselves here year after year, progressing to higher levels of achievement.
Coaches, all of whom are former competitors or performers themselves, tailor their classes to best meet the needs of every individual student. Taking training seriously while always incorporating safety and fun allows us to send students home with a greater sense of self-esteem and body-awareness - two factors that the staff at AcroSports believes are key to a better life.

* Boys will be introduced to, but not evaluated on, vault and bar skills. |

Intro To Gymnastics(formerly Intro to Star)
Intro to Gymnastics is a one hour class for students 6-7 year olds who are new to gymnastics or the schoolage program (PreK students in our Tumblers and AcroFitness classes who turn 6 should enroll in Intro to Gymnastics before moving to Blue level classes).
This co-ed class focuses on tumbling skills, such as forward and backward rolls, handstands, bridges and cartwheels; as well as introducing basic skills on artistic apparatus, such as vault, beam, rings, and bars.
Students may enroll in Intro to Gymnastics for a maximum of 3 sessions before moving up. |
Gymnastics: Blue Introductory
Blue Beginner classes for boys and girls are for students 8 and older who are new to gymnastics or 6-7 year olds who have taken the Intro to Gymnastics class or Tumble Star (PreK) class.
Co-ed and non-co-ed Blue Level classes are offered. All classes introduce fundamental skills on both floor and apparatus:
Girls: Uneven Bars, Beam, and Vault
Boys: High Bar, Rings, Vault, Parallel Bars and Pommel Horse |
Gymnastics: Green, Red, Orange, Purple, Black, and Bronze
Green, Red, Orange, Purple, Black and Bronze classes progressively build on skills learned in previous levels. The prerequisite for each class is the ability to complete each skill in the previous level and students who coaches feel are ready to move up to the next level will be recommended for an evaluation***. Students who do not automatically receive an evaluation may request one to check their progress.
Students in Green and Red classes are strongly encouraged to attend 2 or more classes a week to ensure steady progress. Students in Orange, Purple, Black and Bronze are required to attend 2 or more classes a week. Stretching and conditioning at home are highly recommended to help develop the flexibility and strength required of gymnasts. At the start of each session, coaches will give students a handout of recommended drills and exercises to do safely at home. Conditioning cards may also be downloaded here.
***Students who have not enrolled for a session or more may be required to be reevaluated.

| AcroSports power tumbling program is also based on a color-level system which is divided by age. Specific skill sets determine whether students should enroll in Blue introductory, Green beginning, or Red Intermediate classes. Students ages 6-7 that are new to tumbling or gymnastics or moving up from our pre-school program should enroll in the Intro to Gymnastics class to get a grounding in Tumbling and Gymnastics basics. If you have questions or to schedule an evaluation, please speak with our SchoolAge Program Manager Andre Yee . |

Blue Introductory Tumbling
Blue level tumbling is for those students who wish to either focus on tumbling or have additional practice on skills they are learning in other blue level classes. |
Green Beginner Tumbling
Green level tumbling is for students who have progressed beyond introductory level tumbling skills and are beginning to work on more advanced rebounding skills (roundoff). |
Red Intermediate
Red level tumbling students build on skills learned in previous levels as well as work on combining skills into longer tumbling passes. Students wishing to enroll in Red tumbling classes must first be evaluated by the head tumbling instructor. As with any upper level classes students enrolled in Red Tumbling classes are strongly encouraged to attend 2 or more classes a week to ensure steady progress. Stretching and conditioning at home are also highly recommended to help develop the flexibility and strength required of tumblers. At the start of each session, coaches will give students a handout of recommended drills and exercises to do safely at home. |
Youth/Teen Trampoline
Students develop strength, body awareness and aerial awareness in AcroSports trampoline classes. Progressions begin with basic jumps (tuck, straddle), seat and front drops, and move on to twists and front and back somersault tucks. Skills are then combined into routines. Both aussie bed and Fastrak trampolines will be used in this class.
Open to students age 8-16, all levels welcome. |

Capoeira
Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian art form that combines dance, gymnastics and martial-art techniques in an aerobic workout. The flow of kicks, sweeps, cartwheels, handstands, and flips set to the powerful rhythm of Brazilian songs and percussion instruments creates a beautiful spectacle requiring strength, agility, and communication between players. Capoeira is an ideal self-defense program for children because it relies on agility and spontaneous escapes, rather than aggressive strength and violence. A unique art form, Capoeira encourages self-confidence and self-expression.
Each Capoeira program begins with a sequence of basic exercises and stretches, helping the beginner to develop flexibility, hidden strength and power. The next phase is to master the rhythmic step called GINGA, a graceful side-to-side step that gives the student a physical base from which to execute all kicks, escapes, and acrobatic moves.
Students progress towards training in partners, where the practice of various Capoeira sequences allow them to develop an idea of how to move and what to do inside the RODA, the circle in which the game is played, with the accompaniment of capoeira songs and instruments.
AcroSports' children's program will teach capoeira movements with a focus on acrobatics, as well as introduce the musical and historical components of the art. Classes include 15 minutes of song and instrument work, followed by a thorough warm up, drills, partner sequences, tumbling, and games. While a background in gymnastics is extremely helpful for a new capoeirista, students need not have any former gymnastics, acrobatics, or martial arts experience to enroll in this class. Capoeira classes are offered to students age 5 and older.
Youth/Teen Returning Capoeira is an accelerated class that requires coaches recommendation. |

Break Dancing
Students learn the fundamentals of breakdancing: popping, freezes, power moves, etc. |
Parkour
Parkour is a physical discipline inspired by human movement. It focuses on interrupted, efficient forward motion over, under, around and through obstacles in one's environment. The goal of parkour is to adapt one's movement to any given obstacle in one's path. Learn basics of proper landing, running, jumping, climbing on, over and around obstacles, and safe spotting and training techniques. |
